How compression works
CompressQuick re-encodes your images using modern lossy compression. For browsers that support it, output is WEBP format (typically 25-35% smaller than equivalent JPEG). For older browsers, JPEG is used as a fallback. Both achieve significant file size reduction while maintaining visual quality that is indistinguishable from the original at balanced settings.
The quality slider controls the tradeoff between file size and visual fidelity. At 90-95%, compression artifacts are invisible to the human eye. At 70-80%, files are dramatically smaller with only subtle quality loss visible at extreme zoom. Below 60%, compression becomes visible but files are as small as possible — useful for thumbnails and previews where size matters more than detail.
All processing happens in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded to any server. There are no file size limits, no daily usage caps, and no watermarks added to your compressed images.
